Training and development
Training and development - topics that remain just as crucial today as they were five years ago, especially in the face of a growing talent shortage. At Miebach, training programs are not confined to individual offices but are offered holistically to all Miebachians, no matter where they are based. Employees from across the globe have the opportunity to travel to designated training locations, fostering an environment that is both enriching and internationally connected.
This cross-border and cross-office concept is particularly exciting, as it allows not only for deep learning but also the chance to network with colleagues worldwide, explore regional nuances, and share personal experiences and differences in daily project work. For me, these training sessions are not just opportunities to acquire new knowledge, but also to continually challenge and refine my methods and approaches based on fresh insights.
Training Program
The training program typically begins with basic logistics training, offering a comprehensive understanding of Miebach’s diverse areas of expertise and market segments. These sessions include site visits to warehouses, providing participants with hands-on insights into logistics systems. Following this, specialized competency field training imparts essential project skills. The training is complemented by expert lectures and practical case studies to support the learning process, allowing participants to apply their new skills directly. A particularly exciting session was the Basic Logistics Training II after going through Basic Logistics I. This training included visits to Cosnova, Rossmann warehouses, and even Porsche’s production and logistics facilities. I had the chance to observe a wide range of fascinating warehouse, manufacturing, and picking technologies in live operation. Seeing these technologies in action proved to be crucial for gaining a true understanding of them, which I can now apply more effectively in my project work. This training took me on a journey across Germany, from Frankfurt to Leipzig and finally to Berlin. In addition to insightful presentations from Miebach's Head of Industries, preparing our own pitch assessments of the warehouses we visited, and engaging in activities such as sightseeing and socializing, it was an intense yet rewarding experience.
Moreover, Training at Miebach not only focuses on the hard skills – but social competency training focusing on project management, consulting skills, communication, and leadership—sometimes led by external experts as well.
Highlights
One of my personal highlights? Definitely the "Supply Chain Design Bootcamp," a training session focused on Miebach’s network design methodology. With my focus on networks and strategy, this bootcamp significantly advanced my skills and equipped me with valuable tools and experiences. Held in our Montreal office in Canada, the bootcamp provided not only professional development but also a memorable international experience, culminating in an invitation to the christmas party hosted by our Canadian and American teams—a wonderful conclusion to the week and an unforgettable experience. I even extended my business trip with a few days of personal vacation.
“One Miebach” is more than just a slogan
Altogether, these training weeks have been some of the most demanding yet rewarding times in my career at Miebach. They were also incredibly memorable, as I met amazing people from around the world, gained insights into different cultures, and interacted with colleagues I rarely encounter in my daily project work. These training weeks were filled with fun, and it was particularly gratifying to see that despite the geographical distances, we all share the same overarching goals, and the typical willingness to help among Miebachians transcends borders. This fostered a wonderful sense of community and reinforced the reality that “One Miebach” is more than just a slogan—it’s a lived reality.
After training, it’s time to let everything sink in, process the new knowledge, and, if applicable, apply it directly to the project work—and of course, start looking forward to the next training session!
