ASICS – EDC Krefeld Automation – delivering on the customer

ASICS Europe B.V., a leading player in the running shoes market, experienced significant sales growth in the European market in 2021, particularly in the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) segment. ASICS Europe sought to assess and enhance its distribution network, focusing on its European Distribution Center (EDC) in Krefeld, Germany, and Distribution Center South (DCS) in Garons, France.

Following an omnichannel network study conducted collaboratively by ASICS and Miebach, the existing distribution centers EDC Krefeld, Germany, and DCS Garons, France surfaced as the optimal setup, particularly in light of the booming Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) business but as well to further optimize our operational service for our wholesale partners. In the face of labor shortages and rising costs, automation at the EDC Krefeld emerged as a pivotal solution, driving the pursuit of efficiency and sustainability in operations.

With this opportunity, Miebach defined the optimal European Supply Chain and network structure, designed a state-of-the-art automation technology, developed new goods-to-person processes, and selected suppliers for the EDC Krefeld.

Agile and efficient logistics and warehousing operations are a key enabler for a seamless operation with our omnichannel customer base. The investment in EDC Krefeld automation is a further significant step for ASICS EMEA to reach this goal. Over the next 20 months, Miebach will manage the realization of the inbound sorter, shuttle system with goods-to-person pick-stations, automated pack stations, and outbound sorter in the brownfield environment, with a targeted go-live date in Q3-2025.
