Miebach Consulting GmbH has been working with the Beiersdorf skin care group in planning a new, state-of-the-art logistics center in Leipzig since Fall 2021. Following initial consultations on the solution development, Miebach has provided continuous support since the Fall of 2022 with detail planning and the awarding of contracts for intralogistics and IT to efficient suppliers.

Technical features of the new logistics center
Miebach planned a highly dynamic flow of goods, with an innovative overall layout for the incoming and outgoing conveyors and goods distribution systems, the optimal development of different picking and replenishment areas, and attached the storage areas for pallets and containers. The backbone of the pallet system is the 'i.con-one level' with a throughput of more than 600 pallets per hour. This is an innovative goods-to-person solution from Miebach, specially designed for dynamic storage pre-zones, simultaneous sequencing requirements, and small space requirements. It has already been proven in numerous Miebach projects based on electric floor track technology. To validate the complex system, Miebach simulated the highly automated material flow in an integrated digital planning approach, iteratively optimized and validated with numerous scenarios.
Miebach planned the logistics center on the site using a compact design. Because of this compact design, they created a central shuttle container warehouse above the pre-zone in the clearance profile in the front approach dimension of the storage and retrieval machines. This space is usually unused in traditional high-bay warehouses for technological reasons. In addition to the space-saving design, another advantage realized by Miebach is the short conveyor distances to the goods-to-person workstations, ensuring the workstation's rapid supply and saving on investment.
With approximately 125,000 pallet storage spaces and 18 aisles in 3 sections, Miebach supported the realization of the state-of-the-art high bay warehouse, divided into 3 fire protection zones, with one block dedicated exclusively to the storage of hazardous materials, designed to meet higher safety requirements.
With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, Miebach selected the appropriate technologies, including a high-performance electric floor conveyor system, an automatic layer-picking system, and the latest shuttle technology.
Collaboration at Eye Level

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 11, 2024. It officially marked the start of the execution of this flagship project at the Leipzig site with the teams of Beiersdorf and Miebach. The general contractor IE is responsible for the construction and building services, as well as the coordination with logistics.
Miebach provided us with their professional support from the early concept phase through to the award of the contract. We particularly appreciate the innovative solutions, the excellent cooperation at eye level, the exceptional commitment, and the experience they bring to the table”, says Björn Schwarz, overall project manager at Beiersdorf.
